A Dictionary is described as an inventory of words or articles that confer with a selected subject. It does so by listing these words in alphabetical order within the type of headwords, the words listed as entries within the dictionary. The dictionary mainly helps to understand the meaning of recent words, their synonyms. If you do not know the right meaning, the proper application of any word isn't possible; in that case, the grammatical application of the word will be known from the dictionary. Students can increase their vocabulary by reading the dictionary regularly. In the present age, over time, students must improve their student life, linguistics, and semantics for the betterment of society. The dictionary is a major contributor to that improvement. Numerous new words are also found in the dictionary. Proper application of recent words is understood to create it easier for students to go beyond the boundaries of student life when they are interviewed for a job search, which increases their confidence level. Any Bengali or English dictionary is similarly helpful within the daily life of students.
There are four types of Dictionary-
Bilingual Dictionary : This sort of dictionary that has the word you are searching for translated into your language.
Monolingual Dictionary : It has lots of different information about every word in English.
Learner Dictionary : It is the same as a monolingual dictionary because it's only in English and has lots of information about the word you are trying to seek out.
Subject-specific dictionary
HISTORY : The oldest known dictionaries were cuneiform tablets with bilingual Sumerian–Akkadian wordlists, discovered in Ebla (modern Syria) and dated to roughly 2300 BCE, the time of the Akkadian Empire. The earliest dictionaries within the English language were glossaries of French, Spanish or Latin words together with their definitions in English. The word "dictionary" was invented by an Englishman called John of Garland in 1220 — he had written a book Dictionarius to assist with Latin "diction". In 1806, American lexicographer, Noah Webster, published his first dictionary, A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language. In 1807 Webster began compiling an expanded and fully comprehensive dictionary, An American Dictionary of the English Language; it took twenty-seven years to finish. His book contained seventy thousand words, of which twelve thousand had never appeared in an exceedingly published dictionary before.
